National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2011

I’m going to be speaking about addiction, eating disorders and recovery, as well as reading from Purge: Rehab Diaries at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN on Thursday, February 24th, as part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2011. Exact details are TBA (I will post them as we figure things out), but I’m looking forward to talking with students, visiting some classes and speaking about my experience with EDNOS and my path to recovery. The theme for NEDAW is “It’s Time to Talk About It”. I think that’s a powerful and empowering theme. Eating disorders are isolating by nature, and I encourage everyone to break the silence surrounding eating disorders and addiction.

Also, here is more information about NEDAW:

I read your book "purge", it was agreat book, and I can relate the harsh life of bulimia. I went to treatment in the fall and they only let me stay for 2 weeks because I was not underweight despite my heart problems. I've lost hope since then. If society doesn't tak it serously I don't see why I should. I know that's the wrong attitude but I don't see any other window.
